THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAVEL

Here are five reasons why teenagers should travel:

1. It builds confidence

With journeys, they learn new skills very quickly: how to navigate in foreign environments and how to connect with people of different cultures without having the comforts of their home.

2. It creates the ability to appreciate other cultures

Developing an understanding and respect for other cultures is an important ability for young people. The immersion in foreign cultures allows teenagers to develop cultural sensitivity, acceptance and a more open-minded perspective of the world.

3. It’s humbling

Travel affects the way we relate to the world. It allows to experience different cultures and ways of life. Sometimes, the culture shock and first-hand experience of how others live life is a humbling and important lesson for teenagers. It is helpful to realize that not everything goes around them and it teaches perspective and respect.

4. It’s empowering

Adapting to a foreign environment for the first time can sometimes be a frightening experience, especially for those who have never been outside the comforts of home. However, navigating foreign streets, engaging withlocals and other cultures are skills that are both confidence-building and empowering.

5.  It creates closer bonds and family support

Figures show that spending quality time and creating closer bonds with people we love results in several lasting benefits for teens. These include lower rates of anxiety and depression.

PREVISIONS FOR THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Unfortunately, Covid is also influencing the plans for the summer holidays, the sunny period with cold drinks, dives into the sea and a lot of relaxed time spent on the beach. Most of the people prefer not to travel abroad, in fact only the 30% will take the plane and the 5% will take international routes. Despite this, someone takes advantage of the low prices of this moment and books tickets next summer.

The majority of Italian, American, British and Japanese travellers will move to a close locality with their own car both to be safer from Coronavirus but also to save money because of the economic crisis. Last year almost 90% of Italians travelled to Italy. The costs and people’s choice to travel will depend on the vaccination coverage.

It also seems that this year people will choose unusual destinations – such as the Antarctic and remote islands – to stay away from crowded places and to try new experiences.
